Carefully created for the needs of the Dormouse, the box comes with convenient access for inspection and cleaning, through its completely removable roof, held down securely with a hook and eye. A screw is conveniently situated on the front of the box to assist it's fastening by wire round the tree - as shown.

This nestbox has been designed and ultimately tested extensively with great success over a period of 12 months by the Hedgehog Preservation Society and their hedgehog "carers", whose help is much appreciated. The final nest design has also been approved by Dr. Pat Morris of London University who has contributed to it's development.

One of the few British mammals to hibernate in winter, hedgehogs sleep for at least four months of the year. It is essential that they first fatten up on plenty of high-energy food during the warmer months if they are to survive. The risk is greatest for youngsters born late in the season since they have less time to prepare. You can increase their chances by putting out nutritious food at night
