A grant of £12,000 was used to fund the construction of two jetties to improve boating facilities on the main mere in Ellesmere. Pearce Environment Ltd were delighted to be tasked with the supply and construction of these structures. To add an ecological 'twist' to this project we chose to have the jetties constructed from British recycled plastic, since the money came from the plastic carrier bag tax. The project involved replacing an old jetty with a new recycled plastic one, as well as adding a new jetty on the opposite side of the mere.
Funding for the jetties was received from the Tesco Bags of Help Project, a community fund administered by Groundwork UK which utilises funds raised from the 5p plastic bag charge.
